Biography
As a child, Gaynelle started out singing with her brothers and sisters in church, and even at home. Her mother was always singing at home, and led the children in singing while they did their chores. She loved singing, but the Gospel songs she shared with her family in those days held the greatest place in her heart. It was those songs that helped give her the strength and faith she needed later in life.
Fast forward to 1999. Gaynelle's husband Mackie had been praying for her to receive the gift of songwriting, and finally the gift started to flower and the songs began to blossom. She felt God was leading her to go out and share these songs of faith with others, but she was unsure of the right path to take. Around the same time, she started suffering from MS-like symptoms, as well as other medical ailments. She questioned whether God knew what He was doing, calling someone like her into the ministry. "After all", she said, "I'm just an average singer, who's afraid to get up and sing in front of crowds." God put her fears to rest when He gave her the song "Where Is Your Faith", that became the title track on her first album, recorded in 2000. Through that song, God shared with her that she would not be going in her own strength, but in His strength, and that He would make her more than able.
Since that time, God has continued to be faithful in His promises to Gaynelle.
Every step she has taken in faith has been blessed with healing and strength,
and God continues to open door after door. She is presently the Music Director
at Higher Ground Baptist Church, in Lexington NC, where she is a charter member.
She enjoys the ministry she does in her home Church, but God has provided many
opportunities for her to go out and share her music with the whole Body of Christ.
Gaynelle recorded her second album, "Come To The Waters", in 2003 with Caraway
Media Group, and is currently working on her third release. She has had one of
her songs recorded by Victoria Huggins (song entitled "God Is Trying To Do A
Work") on the album "Let's Start A Party". Her song "In The Palm Of Your
Hand" has
been getting steady rotation at the on-line radio station SG Radio Network, in
connection with TheSouthernGospel.Com.
What Others Are Saying
"Gaynelle Travis has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard and is a gifted
songwriter. She has a great stage presence and brings a spirit of warmth and worship everywhere she sings.
She is a wonderful addition to any promoter's concert or any church service where people have
gathered to hear about the blessed hope! Music with a life changing message is what Gaynelle Travis is
all about."

"Gaynelle is a precious sister in the Lord. God has gifted her an incredible voice,
as well as the desire to use it to build His Kingdom."
Kenna Turner West
Singer, Songwriter, Author
"Gaynelle is the most musically talented person I have ever known
to perform in a small, country church. On my first visit to our little church,
I heard Gaynelle sing and said to myself, "Why is she not on the platform at
Jerry Falwell's church or Dr. Charles Stanley's church in Atlanta?"
I have ministered in a church of over 1,000 members, and have heard
the best singers in America. I have never heard a more talented musician
or worked with a more dedicated Christian than Gaynelle. She
gives 100% of her God-given talent to the Vacation Bible School kids,
no less than she gives to large adult audiences. I consider it a privilege to
have her on my leadership team as our minister of music."
